How to Hire a LinkedIn Ghostwriter for a B2B Founder

What to check, the red flags, the questions to ask and how an engagement runs, before you sign.

Updated 5 November 20268 min read

To hire a LinkedIn ghostwriter for a B2B founder, check four things before you talk price: how they capture your voice, who writes and who is accountable for accuracy, what you approve before anything is published, and what proof they can show with dates attached. Walk away from anyone who wants your LinkedIn login, promises reach or leads, or cannot describe the process in writing. This guide is published by Wise Mango, a vendor, so treat it as a checklist you can run on any candidate, including us.

A note on who is writing this

Wise Mango sells founder-led LinkedIn ghostwriting, so we have an interest in this topic. The checklist below is written so that you can apply it to any ghostwriter or agency, and the proof section uses only the two case studies already published on our case studies page. For an independent comparison of agencies, see our ranking for SaaS founders, which discloses that Wise Mango is part of it, and the fuller comparison on shrutikaushik.com.

What to check before you hire

  1. How they capture your voice. Ask what happens before the first draft. A good answer involves live conversations with you and a written voice guide that records how you speak, what you will not say, and the terms your buyers use. A weak answer is a questionnaire and a style preset.
  2. Who writes, who edits, and where AI is used. You should be able to name the person who writes your posts and the person who reads them before you do. If AI supports drafting, the agency should say so and say who is accountable for the final text.
  3. What you approve. Every claim about your company, customers and numbers should reach you for a fact check before publication. Ask whether anything can go live without your sign-off. The right answer is no.
  4. Account access. Writing does not require your password. You should publish from your own account, or schedule from a tool you control.
  5. Scope in writing. Deliverables, review rounds, who is responsible for what, fees and exclusions should be in a proposal you can read before committing.
  6. Fit with a B2B buyer. A founder profile in B2B is read by prospects, candidates, partners and analysts. Check that the ghostwriter has written about decisions and trade-offs in your category, not only about personal milestones. Ask to see how they would turn one real decision of yours into a post.
  7. Proof with dates. Ask for figures with the period stated and the screenshot behind them. See the proof section below for what this looks like.
  8. Conflicts of interest. If the agency publishes rankings or comparisons, check whether it discloses its own place in them.

Red flags

  • They ask for your LinkedIn password or session access.
  • They promise reach, followers, leads or revenue. No one controls what a platform does with a post.
  • They start writing before any conversation with you.
  • Pricing and scope are unclear until after you have signed.
  • They cannot say who will write your posts, or the writer changes after the sales call.
  • Proof shows large numbers with no period, no source and no explanation of what the ghostwriter actually did.
  • Posts about your company contain claims you were never asked to confirm.
  • They use the same structure and opening lines for every client.
  • They would publish from your account on a schedule without letting you see the text first.

Questions to ask in the first call

  1. Walk me through everything that happens between this call and the first published post.
  2. What is in your voice guide, and can I see a redacted example?
  3. Who writes my posts, and who edits them?
  4. Where do you use AI, and what does a human check?
  5. How do you check facts about my company, customers and numbers before a post goes out?
  6. What do I approve, and can anything be published without my approval?
  7. How much of my time do you need each cycle, and in what form?
  8. What will you not write for me?
  9. How do you measure progress, and what do you refuse to promise?
  10. What does the written proposal include, and how do we end the engagement if it is not working?

How an engagement runs

This is how Wise Mango runs it, offered as a reference point for comparing other candidates.

  1. Two discovery calls, 60 minutes each. Business context, who you need to reach, the point of view you should be known for, and how you sound when you talk about your work. These produce a written voice guide.
  2. A written proposal. Deliverables, review rounds, responsibilities, fees and exclusions, in writing before you commit. Pricing is shared on a call. For how scoping works, see LinkedIn ghostwriting pricing.
  3. Interviews, then drafts. Each cycle opens with a short conversation and closes with drafts matched to the voice guide. Shruti Kaushik writes and edits; AI supports drafting where it saves time; a human editor reads every piece.
  4. Your approval. You check every fact and approve every piece before it is published. You publish from your own account.
  5. Review against agreed measures. No reach, lead or revenue outcome is promised. Progress is reviewed against measures agreed with you.

What proof looks like

Both examples below come from the case studies page. Each states a period, and neither is a promise of what a new client will see. Neither is a B2B SaaS engagement, so read them as evidence of how the work is measured and reported, not as a forecast for your category.

CasePeriodFigure reported
Shayna Ecounified, founder LinkedIn for Paras Saluja2023, first 45 days81,900 reactions, 4,130 comments and 1,515 reposts on one post
SugarBox Networks (Zee), company LinkedIn page28 Dec 2023 to 26 Mar 2024Reactions up 642.1% to 1,499; comments up 283.3% to 69; reposts up 250% to 28

One finding from the SugarBox case is useful when you compare vendors: in the first month, sponsored posts performed about 95% worse than the organic posts written for the page, which is why every engagement starts organic-first. The platform screenshots for both cases are on the case studies page.

When a ghostwriter is not the right move

A ghostwriter needs your time for interviews and approvals. If you cannot give that, or if you want someone to post without your involvement, expect posts that do not sound like you. If you want a tool you run yourself, the Klype post checker, built by the same founder, flags unsupported claims, invented stories and machine-writing patterns in any LinkedIn draft, with no sign-up.

Common questions

How long does it take to find out whether a ghostwriter fits?

The discovery stage tells you most of it. At Wise Mango that is two 60-minute calls that produce a written voice guide. If a ghostwriter cannot show you how they would capture your voice before they write anything, treat that as the answer.

Should a ghostwriter have my LinkedIn password?

No. You publish from your own account. Wise Mango never asks for a LinkedIn login. Anyone who needs your credentials to do the job is asking for more access than writing requires.

Does it matter whether the ghostwriter uses AI?

What matters is who is accountable for the result. At Wise Mango, AI supports drafting where it saves time, a human editor reads every piece, and the founder approves every piece before it goes out. Ask any candidate to describe that chain in plain words.

Can a ghostwriter promise reach or leads?

No honest one can. Platform reach depends on many things outside a writer's control. Wise Mango promises no reach, lead or revenue outcome and reviews progress against measures agreed with you.

Should I tell my audience I use a ghostwriter?

That is your decision, and it is worth deciding on purpose. Wise Mango has published a rules dataset and trust research on disclosure, linked from this page.

What proof should a ghostwriter show me?

Dated figures with the period stated, the platform screenshot behind them, and a plain statement of what was and was not the ghostwriter's doing. Be wary of proof with no period and no source.

Is Wise Mango right for every founder?

No. It is built for B2B founders and executives with real expertise who can give time to interviews and approvals. If you cannot spare that time, no ghostwriter will produce work that sounds like you.
